PURPOSE: A multimedia device for a vehicle and a method for controlling the same are provided to perform a remote control of multimedia devices from other multimedia devices in the front or rear seats of a vehicle, thereby promoting the availability of data. CONSTITUTION: A multimedia device for a vehicle (1) comprises a first multimedia unit (10) and a second multimedia unit (20). The first multimedia unit comprises a first control unit (102), a first multimedia unit (103), a first video codec (105), a first audio processing unit (109) and a first input unit (107). The first multimedia unit is connected to and controlled by the first control unit. The first video codec receives video data from the first multimedia unit and transmits video decoding data to a first display unit. The first audio processing unit receives audio data from the first multimedia unit and transmits audio processing data to a sound output unit. The first input unit outputs an input signal which is performed and inputted by the user into the first control unit. The second multimedia unit comprises a second control unit (202), a second multimedia unit (203), a second video codec (205), a second audio processing unit (209) and a second input unit (207).
