A safety door assembly comprises a door frame with a door leaf hingedly mounted in the frame so as to be openable in a first direction, the hinged mounting of the door leaf being on a doorpost mounted to be pivotable about an axis 25 parallel to and spaced from the hinged door mounting. The doorpost can thus pivot between a first rotational position in which the door leaf is openable in one direction only, from a closed position in which its free edge remote from its hinged mounting engages a side of the door frame as in the case of a conventional door, and a second rotational position in which said free edge is pulled away from the frame, enabling the door to be pulled open in a direction opposite to its normal opening direction. In this way the door can be opened in an emergency even when opening on its normal opening side is prevented by locking or by a heavy object placed against it. |
