1287693 Bed sheets; protective covers H R HOCKLEY and A H HOCKLEY 19 April 1971 [7 April 1970] 16526/70 Headings A4M and A4S [Also in Division A1] A protective bed sheet for humans or animals comprises of sheet 11 of liquid-impervious material inserted through the mouth 5 of a container in the form of a bag and formed by a sheet of absorbent textile material, such as Turkish towelling, folded at 4 to form layers 1a, 1b which are secured together by lines of stitching 6, 7. The sheet is removably secured within the bag by tapes 10 which pass through reinforced apertures (10a) in the sheet and through gaps (9) in the lines of stitching and are tied or secured by plastics press studs in pockets 8 formed between the lines of stitching and the free edges of the sheet. The open end of the bag may be closed by fastenings 13 which may be plastics press studs, tapes or Velcro (Registered Trade Mark). In modifications, the bag is formed of two separate sheets stitched along three sides, or the container is in the form of an open-ended, flattened tube, in which the layers are integral, or is formed from a single sheet or two separate sheets of absorbent material, the sheet of impermeable material being secured to the container by Velcro at sides thereof where there is no stitching for the passage of tapes. One end of the tube may be closed by a line of stitching and the other open end by fastening means 13. The sheet 11 may be of rubber, plastics material or treated textile fabric.
