A refuse container has a bin defining a cavity and a lid. The bin has a lip defining an opening to the cavity, a rim extending peripherally about the lip, a skirt seating surface, and at least one impact pad seating surface. The lid is rotatably coupled to the bin. The lid has a skirt and at least one impact pad. The skirt extends peripherally of and downwardly from the lid and includes a skirt contact surface configured to be seated upon the skirt seating surface. Each impact pad extends downwardly from the lid and includes a respective contact surface configured to be seated upon a respective impact pad seating surface. An operative impact surface is the sum of all of the respective contact surfaces. The ratio of the surface area of the operative impact surface to the surface area of contact surface of the skirt is at least 0.1. |
