1369647 Feeding and delivery sheets; folding signatures HARRIS CORP 7 Dec 1971 [2 March 1971] 56755/71 Heading B8R A device for gathering sheets or signatures comprises a hopper 30 for supporting the sheets or signatures, rotary drum separating means, e.g. a gripper cylinder 32, for extracting sheets or signatures from said hopper, feed means for feeding the sheets or signatures from the separating means to a rotary feed drum 14 and including folder means for folding the sheets or signatures, the feed drum 14 transporting the sheets or signatures to an opening device and gathering conveyer 22. An oscillatable suction cup 36 and a blade may assist separation, the sheets or signatures being fed by rollers 40A, 40 and belts 42, 46 to a stop 58, a reciprocating blade folder 50 or buckling folder, Fig. 5 (not shown), then folding the sheet signature which is fed onwards via rollers 55, 56, 59, 60, 64 and belt 62 to conveyer chains 67 having lugs 69 which engage and feed the folded sheet or signature via guides 70, 72, in timed relation, to grippers on the drum 14. A folded edge of the sheet or signature is stopped at 24 whilst the trailing edge is taken by rollers 18, 20 to open the fold. The opening device, chain conveyers, folder, feed and separating mechanisms may all be driven synchronously, the folder, feed and separating mechanisms being mounted on a common frame. |
