A color filter and an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) are provided to achieve high color purity, high contrast and a wide viewing angle even when the color filter is applied to a display of a notebook computer or a large-sized LCD such as a television monitor. A color filter has at least red, green and blue color pixels. Chromaticity x of the red pixel of the color filter under C light in XYZ color matrix system is in the range of 0.58 to 0.68 and chromaticity y of the red pixel is in the range of 0.31 to 0.35. Retardation of the red pixel in the thickness direction is in the range of -50nm to 50nm and has a contrast of higher than 3500. |
