PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading device which makes it possible to share a motor in an ADF mode and an FB mode and drive document transport and read in either the normal or the reverse rotation direction of the motor without avoiding increase in cost.SOLUTION: The image reading device comprises: a read unit including a movable sensor; a first read mechanism for reading a document placed on a document holder by moving the read unit; a second read mechanism for reading the document by transporting the document to the read unit; a common drive source for driving the first read mechanism and the second read mechanism; a transmission unit for transmitting drive forces from the drive source to the first read mechanism and the second read mechanism, respectively; and a switching unit for changing the direction of rotation of the second read mechanism in which it is driven to normal or reverse against the drive source which rotates in one direction. The switching unit operates according to the movement of the read unit. |
