摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of extracting three dimensional structure of an optical waveguide core used for observing an optical fiber core structure of a splice section when fusion splicing optical fibers, which uses X-ray CT to three dimensionally observe geometrical deformation structure of the cores and obtain an offset value between the fusion spliced optical fiber cores in order to understand effect that impurities foreign to a core material embedded in a vicinity of the fusion spliced section has on the optical fiber core structure.SOLUTION: A method of extracting three dimensional structure of an optical waveguide core includes the steps of: observing a campsite histogram M of a LAC histogram G derived from a core portion of an optical waveguide and a LAC histogram F derived from a cladding portion in a fusion spliced section of an optical waveguide using X-ray CT; performing a best approximation numerical analysis on an assumption that the LAC histogram G derived from the core portion and the LAC histogram F derived from a cladding section have Gaussian distribution; computing an average value of the Gaussian distribution corresponding to the core portion; and extracting a core structure from a CT image of the entire optical waveguide using the average value as a threshold.
