PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston and a piston ring for an internal combustion engine, capable of suppressing an increase in the number of components and reducing a blow-by gas and oil consumption while suppressing complication of a structure thereof and machining thereto.SOLUTION: A piston 51 and a top ring (piston ring) 54 for an internal combustion engine are provided in a cylinder 5 of an engine 100 so as to be reciprocable, the piston 51 defines a combustion chamber 38 between the cylinder 5 and the piston, and the top ring 54 and a second ring 55 are respectively mounted to a top ring groove 512a and a second ring groove 512b which are formed in an outer periphery of the piston 51. The top ring 54 is locked to the piston 51 so that an abutment 54a formed in the top ring 54 is directed to a thrust direction side.
