PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a vertical type thin film system distiller and a wiper for the vertical type thin film system distiller used for this distiller, capable of preventing a polymer from depositing in a wiper storage groove, by preventing generation of a liquid reservoir between the wiper storage groove and the wiper.SOLUTION: The wiper 7 has an abutting surface 7a abutting on an inner wall 13 of a container body 3 and a back face facing to a bottom part 15a of the wiper storage groove 15. The wiper storage groove 15 has a wiper holding part 15d for holding the wiper 7 in its lower end part. A residual liquid discharge passage 47 communicating toward the abutting surface 7a side from the back face 7b side is formed between the wiper holding part 15d and the wiper 7.
