PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a focus adjustment apparatus and a focus adjustment method capable of focus adjustment action at high speed by suitably setting the direction of movement of a focus lens and carrying out an autofocus process of a contrast system.SOLUTION: Whether or not the posture of a camera is horizontal is determined (S21), the lens driving direction is set (S33 to S39) according to the posture of the camera (S25) and the direction of movement of the subject (S27, S29) when the posture of the camera is not horizontal as the result of this determination, and a scanning action for contrast AF is carried out in the set lens driving direction (S5). |
