Provided is a terminal capable of changing a function in a chatting thread, which includes: a display unit which displays a chatting thread screen including a chatting window and a data input window; a user input unit which receives information on the data input window through the button input or touch of a user; and a control unit which performs a function which is currently set if a button is operated by a first mode when the information is inputted on the data input window, displays a spread menu including a plurality of functions on the chatting thread screen to select the function to be applied to the corresponding information if the button is operated by a second mode, and performs the selected function on the display spread menu.
