PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce noise caused by moire or other high-frequency components and also improve picture quality.SOLUTION: In an embodiment of an image pickup device drive method, a plurality of pixel signals of the image pickup device are subjected to moving average processing. Moving average processing refers to performing addition (or averaging) on a plurality of signals while changing a combination successively so that the pitch of the center of gravity of signals before addition (or averaging) and the pitch of the center of gravity of signals after addition (or averaging) become equal. The drive method in the present embodiment includes a step of performing photoelectric conversion in each of photoelectric conversion units over a period from a first time of day to a second time of day. Then, a plurality of signals are output which are based on charges produced by photoelectric conversion and which are generated in plurality for each of a plurality of pixels. The plurality of signals are signals based on charges stored during the same storage period. |
