PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a memory system for performing a deleting operation and programming operation at higher speed.SOLUTION: A deleting method for a nonvolatile memory device according to the invention comprises: the step of setting a deletion mode; and the step of performing either one of a normal deletion operation and an urgent deletion operation according to the set deletion mode. In the normal deletion operation, a threshold voltage for a memory cell is set to a deletion level lower than a first deletion verification level. In the urgent deletion operation, a threshold voltage for the memory cell is set to a pseudo-deletion level lower than a second deletion verification level, which is higher than the first deletion verification level.
