Comminution apparatus 1 comprising an outer comminution drum 2 and at least one inner comminution drum 3, where the outer comminution drum 2 has a hollow portion and a longitudinal axis 6, and the inner comminution drum 3 has a longitudinal axis 5 and is positioned to be present within the hollow portion of the outer comminution drum 2. The longitudinal axes of both drums are substantially parallel to each other, but not coaxial. At least one of the outer comminution drum 2, and an inner comminution drum 3 is rotatable about its longitudinal axis. The inner comminution drum 3 has at least one projecting macerating feature on its outer surface, and the outer comminution drum 2 has at least one projecting macerating feature on its inner surface. During rotation of at least one of the outer comminution drum 2 and the inner comminution drum 3, about its longitudinal axis the projecting macerating features come into close proximity, but do not make contact with each other. |
