The device (1) has a generator connected to an input of transmission line (2) and generating an input signal. A receiver is connected to an output of the line and measures an output signal. The line radiates a radiated pulse (15) in a detection zone when the input signal is generated such that the output signal has a component due to the propagation of input signal and another component due to an interaction phenomenon between the pulse and person (9). An analyzing unit e.g. microprocessor, records the presence/absence of latter component in the output signal to detect the presence of person. An independent claim is also included for a method for detecting presence of object in a detection zone.
