The meter communications system (302) is comprised of a computer device (204) configured to associate a tower multicast address with a first radio frequency tower (208a). The computer device (204) is also configured to assign the tower multicast address to each of a plurality of electronic utility meters (210a, 210b, 210c) communicating through the first radio frequency tower (208a).
