A method of building construction, particularly suitable for reactive soils, where the reinforcing steel of the edge beams of a building slab is fixed to 5 load transfer plates on the tops of piles supporting the slab. The load transfer plates are selectively vertically adjustable relative to the upper ends of the piles ; but can be locked relative thereto to oppose both lateral and vertical movement of the soils.
