When a double-image coincidence-type finder device is provided, said device is configured in such a manner that even a moving subject is focused. An optically-formed subject image (72) is obtained by the finder device. A subject is photographed with an imaging element, and an image signal representing an image (82) in an autofocus target area (81) of the subject image obtained is read from the imaging element. The image (82) represented by the image signal is displayed on a display screen of a liquid crystal display device constituting an electronic viewfinder. A user views an image obtained by superimposing the image (82), which is displayed on the display screen, on the optical subject image (72) from the finder device. When in focus, the optical subject image (72) and the image (82) coincide. Since the image signal representing part of the subject image is read from the imaging element, the reading time is shorter. Since there is no delay in the display of the image (82), focus is possible even if the subject is moving. |
