PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce 4,4'-(1-phenylethylidene)bisphenols in good yield without using additives such as a metal chloride and an organic sulfur compound.SOLUTION: Either a phenol or a phenol derivative having a methyl group at the ortho position of a phenol and either a hydrobromic acid or a hydrogen bromide gas are added to an acetophenone to react the acetophenone with the phenol or the phenol derivative. |
