This power generating element has: a magnetostrictive rod that is configured from a magnetostrictive material and through the axial direction of which lines of magnetic force pass; a magnetic rod that is provided in conjunction with the magnetostrictive rod and that is configured from a magnetic material; a first coupling mechanism that couples one end of the magnetostrictive rod and one end of the magnetic rod; a second coupling mechanism that couples the other end of the magnetostrictive rod and the other end of the magnetic rod; and a coil that is disposed in a manner so that lines of magnetic force pass along the axial direction thereof and that generates a voltage on the basis of changes in the density of lines of magnetic force arising by means of the expansion/contraction of the magnetostrictive rod. Both ends of the magnetostrictive rod are configured from a male screw section.
