A volatile material dispensing system includes a base and a refill attached to the base. The refill includes a substrate having a volatile material thereon. The dispensing system further includes a cover. In an inactive state, the refill is compressed within the cover and the cover is attached to the base and in an active state, the cover is removed from the base and the refill automatically expands such that the volatile material is released from the substrate and into the ambient environment.
