PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect an optimum defocus amount regardless of scenes requiring or not requiring high-speed defocus detection.SOLUTION: A focusing device includes: a focus detecting sensor constituted by arranging a plurality of pairs of line sensors for receiving light; sensitivity setting means for setting the sensitivity of each pair of line sensors in the plurality of pairs of line sensors; selecting means for selecting one of the plurality of pairs of line sensors for a signal to be used; and operation mode setting means for switching between a first operation mode and a second operation mode. In the first operation mode, different sensitivities are respectively set to the plurality of pairs of line sensors and signals are simultaneously accumulated (S801 to 805); and in the second operation mode, the same sensitivity is set to the plurality of pairs of line sensors and signals are accumulated in a plurality of times with a different sensitivity at each time (S806 to 814). |
