The invention relates to a method for targeted transgene delivery in a myocardium of a patient with myocardial ischemia used for gene therapy of a disease in vivo and comprising direct injection of the vector into arteries supplying myocardium, preferably in combination with a vasoactive agent that is infused into the artery prior to or coincident with the delivery of the vector.
