PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To maintain a performance of a brush member for recovering a secondary transfer residual toner during continuously forming images, and to eliminate an interruption of an image formation operation so as to eject a toner accumulating in the brush member, or to elongate the interval of interruptions as well as to reduce the time required to a post rotation process.SOLUTION: During continuous printing, while the following a region on an intermediate transfer belt 6 passes over a position opposing to a brush 11, the region being present between secondary transfer residual toners that are not secondarily transferred onto a preceding sheet and a succeeding sheet but remain on the intermediate transfer belt 6, the polarity of a voltage applied to the brush 11 is controlled to the reversed polarity of the polarity of a voltage applied to the brush 11 while the secondary transfer residual toner on the intermediate transfer belt 6 passes over the position opposing to the brush 11. While the above region on the intermediate transfer belt passes over a primary transfer part N1, the polarity of a voltage applied to a primary transfer roller 5 is controlled to the reversed polarity of the polarity of a voltage applied to the primary transfer roller 5 when a toner image is primarily transferred to the intermediate transfer belt 6 in the primary transfer part N1. |
