The invention relates to a method for producing an antifriction coating on a workpiece made of steel using a dip varnish containing cationic functional groups, and a dip varnish therefor. To be able to produce thin antifriction coatings with an even coating thickness, a tribologically active pigment is added to the dip varnish for producing the antifriction coating with a reduced coefficient of friction, and the antifriction coating is applied to the workpiece by means of a cathodic dip varnish method at direct voltage, the antifriction coating being applied to the workpiece by means of cations.
