PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of predicting time for transmitting a command transmitted from a main control part and operating an engine part at an engine speed in accordance with the predicted time, thereby suppressing occurrence of a command time-out.SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: drive means for driving paper feed means and transport means; a main control part for generating print image date from a received job; and an engine control part for controlling forming of an image onto a medium by receiving a command and the print image data from the main control part. Further, in the case of receiving, from the main control part, command transmission predicted-time that is the time from receiving a print job start command main control part to replying a print image data reception ready complete command, the engine control part determines a medium transport speed so that the medium transport time from a predetermined position to an image forming start is not shorter than the command transmission predicted-time. |
