摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light source device that is suitably combined and used with a device for illuminating a small region such as a microscope and a liquid crystal projector and that increases brightness of illumination light.SOLUTION: A light source device 1 includes: two light sources 21, 22 outputting light L in opposing directions along a single optical axis X; a wavelength converting element 3 disposed between the two light sources 21, 22 for generating light L' at a wavelength different from that of the light L by irradiation with the light L; a first optical member 41, which is disposed between the wavelength converting element 3 and one light source 21 and which returns light L1' that is scattered to the light source 21 side in the wavelength converting element 3, back to the wavelength converting element 3; and a second optical member 42, which is disposed between the wavelength converting element 3 and the other light source 22, which transmits the light L, and which deflects light L2' scattered to the light source 22 side in the wavelength converting element 3 and the light L1' returned by the first optical member 41, into a direction intersecting the optical axis X.
