The battery has a cell or module carrier (1), and a battery module comprising stacked battery cells (2) and thermally connected with the carrier, where the carrier has I, C or H-shaped cross-section. The carrier comprises a cooling channel (3) formed in a symmetrical plane (1a), where the channel is cast in the carrier during casting process of the carrier. An inlet and an outlet of the channel are arranged on a same narrow side of the carrier, where the carrier is designed as a single-piece. The channel is formed by a tube made from metal, where the carrier is made from aluminum. The module carrier is electrically insulated by painting, powder coating or dip coating.
