The X-ray testing method involves rotating the tire (2) for adjusting a total X-ray image of the tire and recording multiple lamellar images of the tire walls (14) and the tread area lying between the tire walls with an X-ray source (10) and a detector (16). The number of recorded pixels is counted along a measuring path and the length of the measuring path is calculated in the tire cross-section contour for measuring the structures in the total X-ray image based on the size of pixels, geometry of tire and geometry arrangement of the tires, X-ray source and detector relative to one another.
