The present invention provides an apparatus and method for accurately detecting a memory leakage phenomenon on the basis of only basic information on the operation of a program without using detailed information on the memory space being used. The apparatus for detecting a memory leakage comprises: a physical screen information extracting unit for extracting information on the screen of the program being executed; a logical screen discriminating unit for discriminating a logical screen in terms of the memory use amount of the physical screen based on the information regarding the extracted physical screen; a logical screen risk analyzing unit for analyzing the risk of memory leakage of the logical screen based on the change in the memory use amount being used in each logical screen discriminated by the logical screen discriminating unit; a screen switch memory change estimation unit for estimating the change in the memory use amount that can be observed during switching between the logical screens discriminated by the logical screen discriminating unit; a screen switch risk analyzing unit for comparing the estimation result of the screen switch memory change estimation unit and the actual amount of the memory changed during switching between logical screens, and analyzing the risk of memory leakage during screen switching based on the change in the use amount of the memory during switching between screens; and a memory leakage determination unit for synthetically determining whether or not a memory leakage has occurred, by applying the result of the analysis of the logical screen risk analyzing unit and/or the result of the analysis of the screen switch risk analyzing unit.
