PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem in which, in the case of scan data of a hatching pattern or a halftone document, when a hatch or a halftone dot is determined as an edge and processing similar to that for shape data such as characters is performed, an undesirable result is caused.SOLUTION: Image data is divided into a plurality of areas, an attribute of each area is determined, any of a plurality of pieces of sub-sampling means for sub-sampling respective color difference components of the plurality of areas by mutually different methods is selected in accordance with the determined attribute, and image data sub-sampled by the selected piece of sub-sampling means is encoded. |
