<p>1305599 Ortho-benzoyl benzoic acid and anthraquinone BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODAFABRIK AG 3 July 1970 [4 July 1969] 32347/70 Heading C2C Ortho-benzoylbenzoic acid is obtained by oxidizing an indem of the formula where R1 and R<SP>3</SP> each represent a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical and R<SP>2</SP> represents an alkyl radical, with oxygen in the liquid phase in the presence of a heavy metal salt, e.g. cobalt or manganese salts, and a compound yielding bromide ions. The ratio of bromide to each mole of heavy metal salt is preferably 0À2-2 grams. The ortho-benzoyl benzoic acid may be converted, without isolation, to anthraquinone by means of a dehydrating agent such as sulphuric acid or phosphoric acid.</p> |
