<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve such a problem that a diagonal extension method can be used to obtain a polarizing film having an absorption axis diagonal with respect to a width direction of a film, however it is difficult to obtain a thin polarizing film, and a thin polarizing film can be easily obtained by using an existing process in which a support film is coated with a thin film of a liquid crystal compound and the liquid crystal compound is aligned, thereby making a thin film into a polarizing film, however, such a process cannot obtain a polarizing film for which the absorption axis is diagonal with respect to the width direction of the support film. <P>SOLUTION: A surface of a support film 11 is aligned in two directions. A solution containing a lyotropic liquid crystal compound 14 is applied to the surface of the support film 11. A columnar aggregate 15 of the lyotropic liquid crystal compound 14 is aligned in a direction of the sum of vector (an alignment direction 16) of a first alignment process direction 12 and a second alignment process direction 13. Thereby, a thin polarizing film 18 having an absorption axis 17 diagonal with respect to a width direction 19 can be obtained. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2013,JPO&INPIT |
