PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To restrain a fall in print throughput more than necessary while preventing burning of a head coil due to heat generation. SOLUTION: A control part 11 of a dot impact printer 1 carries out printing in a driving mode of a recording head 5 with a low heating value and at a slow printing speed using a combination of temperatures of 65°C, 75°C, 107°C lower than normal as a reference temperature when regions including special bit images exist at N parts or more (N: 2 or more) in respective pattern detection regions 15 set to five parts in a range of one dot line prior to printing each dot line. When the regions including the special bit images are less than N parts, e.g., the area including the special big image is one part, the control part 11 carries out printing in a driving mode with a high heating value and at a fast printing speed using a combination of normal temperatures of 102°C, 107°C, 110°C as the reference temperature.
