Cpds. of formula (I) ((I; R1 = H) can exist in the tautomeric form of formula (Ia)) where Xo = lower alkylene with 2 or 3 C-atoms between the two O-atoms, R = H or an aliphatic hydrocarbon residue. Ro = H or alkyl, R1 = H, an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic hydrocarbon residue, an araliphatic residue, or lower hydroxyalkyl. (I) have good activity against gram-negative bacteria and coccidiosis-causing parasites and can be used as disinfectants, preservatives, anti-bacterials (e.g. for gram-negative urinary tract infections) and coccidiostats. They also improve the feed utilisation and weight gain of animals (esp. poultry) and can be used as feed additives. (I) are additionally intermediates for other useful substances, particularly pharmaceuticals. |
