<p>1320595 Vehicle safety assembly ALLIED CHEMICAL CORP 8 Oct 1971 [15 Oct 1970] 47077/71 Heading B7B A vehicle safety assembly has an inflatable means having an extending end portion attached to guide means for movement therewith and control means coacting with the guide means to allow irreversible movement of the inflatable means towards an extended position. In a preferred embodiment the inflatable means 18 includes an inflatable bag 22, normally stored in the folded position which is inflated from a pressurized gas container 24. Thus in response to a collision condition the bag 22 is inflated to move the attached rod 28 downwardly and thereby move cables 26 so that the lower pulleys 34 rotate in the counterclockwise direction as viewed in the drawing, and upward movement of the bag will be limited by means of the racket device 36 having a pawl 42 which is supported on the vehicle body. The pulleys 32, 34 and cables 26 are normally disposed within the vehicle side panels. The decorative panelling of the vehicle includes a slot 44 on each side for receiving opposite ends of the rod 28.</p> |
