A piece of jewellery 101 comprises at least one passive tag 108 programmed with at least a unique identification code A tag reader 102 is configured to read the code from a microchip on the tag when the tag reader and the piece of jewellery touch, or come into close contact. The reader then displays 103 a personal message that is associated with the unique identification code. The tag could be a radio-frequency tag such as an RFID or NFC tag. The tag could be layered onto the surface of the jewellery item and may be coated with resin, glass or metal. The message content may be stored on a remote storage device, the tag reader being able to access the remote storage. |
