<p>The invention relates to a device for applying a medium to a substrate, wherein the device comprises at least one rotatable cylinder and a frame, wherein the at least one cylinder is arranged rotatably about a rotational axis relative to the frame, and wherein the device comprises a rotational angle control apparatus, which is arranged and/or can be arranged at least in some sections in a reference rotational angle position relative to the at least one cylinder and at the same time in a reference position relative to the frame, and wherein the rotational angle control apparatus is arranged in a cooperating manner and/or such as to be capable of cooperating with at least one reference mark and is designed such as to allow a non-contact examination of a rotational angle position of the at least one first cylinder, and wherein the rotational angle control apparatus comprises at least one transmitter which, with regard to at least one transmission direction, is arranged directed at an outer surface of a barrel of the at least one cylinder extending parallel to the rotational axis.
