A saw having a saw assembly pivotably mounted on a base to pivot towards and away from the base for cutting work, A fan 114 driven by a motor 108, 110 mounted within the saw assembly and a drive spindle driven via a drive mechanism comprising first and second parallel, rotatable shafts having a drive wheel and a driven wheel respectively, a drive belt 146 wrapped around the drive wheel and driven wheel, the fan generating an air flow which passes over the drive belt. The fan may be mounted on the output shaft 112 of the motor and may also cool the motor. The drive belt may be located in a chamber 158 having first 120 and second apertures to ensure air flow over the belt. The fan and motor may be located within a housing 40, 104 having aperture 118 for air intake and apertures 120 which the air flows out of, the outflow apertures aligning with inflow apertures 120 in the belt chamber. The saw may be a sliding compound mitre saw. The drive belt may be elastic, e.g. rubber, to absorb impacts. Also disclosed, a compound fan and drive arrangement, a support to prevent tipping, a cutting guide and a dust removal system. |
