The blocks of pages (4) are pushed forwards by the device (1) consisting of a roller (13) which drives a roller (14) through a belt (11) which presses on the upper surface of the pages (4). A similar device is fitted below the pages (4) but this has a pair of pulleys (17) and (18) which can be moved horizontally to adjust the length of belt in contact with the pages (4) according to the size of page. Each block of pages (4) can be held stationary for the interval of time required to carry out a particular phase of the bookbinding process by the sliding stop (51) which moves in unison with the swinging arm (2) of the next section of the conveyor.
