<p>The application is to converter stations having at least two converter units in series, with means for isolating either. The installation may be simplified by feeding each converter with auxiliary power, e.g. for firing circuits, from a winding on its own transformer by providing each converter with a bridging circuit (14), and a controller which sets the firing angle of the incoming bridge at 90 deg. as soon as the main switch (5) is closed and the transformer energised. In this condition effectively no current is fed into the short circuit formed by the bridging circuit (14). The bypass switch (16) is then opened and the firing adjusted until the incoming unit is carrying mean current. At this point the current through the bridging circuit is cyclic, passing through zero, and the circuit can easily be opened. normal adjustment of firing control may then follow.</p> |
