The vehicle air ventilator comprises a variable geometry duct (10) in a swivel ball mounting to direct the airflow as desired. The inside of the duct is closed off by a smooth surface full width valve element (14) which sits on a conical valve seating (16). Control of the flaps is obtained from radial projections (21) on the valve element (14) and from helical grooves (20) in an insert (13) so that the projections engage in axial grooves (22) which are formed in the inner wall of the housing (11) to determine the orientation of the valve and hence the air flow.
