Superconducting, cylindrical mouldings are mfd. by the use of an outer metal supporting tube, contg. a concentric, deformable inner tube so that an annular gap. exists between tubes; the gap being filled with a metal powder. The plastic tube is then filled with a pressure fluid and the metal powder forced by high pressure against support tube, which is pref. closed by end caps, one cpa possessing an opening connected to a high pressure hydraulic pump. Alternatively, a metal wire may be located in the inner tube and ignited by a high voltage pulse to produce a pressure wave in the fluid. The inner tube is pref. made of elastomeric plastic. Tube is pref. Cu and the metal powder pref. has compsn. Nb70.9Sn23.7Cu5.4. Method is for mfr. of screens ar field formers in superconducting applications, etc. at cryogenic temps.
|
