The electrical machine has a rotor mounted on a shaft and sliding contacts for its commutator. The commutator assembly forms part of a flat plate whose centre coincides with the centre of the shaft of the machine. The sliding contacts are formed by annular rings which are located coaxially on opposite faces of the flat plate. The rings each consist of several symmetric segments. The spring loaded brushes are located on each side of the insulating plate and grouped in pairs such that the brushes of any one pair act towards one another through the plate (i.e. act axially parallel but in opposite directions.
