Hydrostatic transmission for small vehicle - with hydraulic brake to stop gear shaft for gear change

The mass produced small vehicle has a combustion engine which drives a fluid flywheel. This in turn drives a single speed gear bos, which has the facility for reverse and neutral settings. In order to provide a simple gear change control the main shaft (4) of the gear box is braked during gear change. The gear brake operates from the hydraulic brakes of the vehicle, but at a lower pressure than is required to apply the wheel brakes. A pressure control system isolates the gear change brake from the wheel brakes when a set pressure is exceeded.
