PURPOSE: A method for operating an electronic control device for vehicles is provided to increase the vehicle diagnosing efficiency because the diagnosis is possible even if it is connected to an arbitrary electronic control unit without specializing a diagnostic device according to the electronic control devices by exchanging data between an embedded memory and an additional memory. CONSTITUTION: A method for operating an electronic control device for vehicles comprises the following steps: extracting a part of data stored in an arbitrary address from a read-only first memory in which a control program is stored; successively arranging the extracted data and copying to a second memory capable of copying the data; and renewing the data of the first memory corresponding to the data in which the change is generated in case the change of one or more data among the data stored in the second memory is generated.
