The present invention relates to a method for grabbing a slab of a tong crane and provides following steps. Information on a width, thickness, and a scarfing depth of each slab to be transferred by the tong crane is collected. A first control value of a rising block is calculated based on the stack thickness of the slab using each thickness information of the slabs to be transferred. A second control value of the rising block is calculated based on the width of the lowest slab using a gap between link shafts and a distance between the link shaft and tip. A final control value is calculated by adding the first control value to the second control value. A griper of the tong crane is operated after the block moves up based on the final control value.
