The circuit (106) has identical inverters (112, 114), where each inverter is designed to supply power to traction motors (102, 104). Switching units configure the inverters in series or parallel such that work voltage at terminals of the inverter is equal to supply voltage when the inverters are configured in parallel and to half of supply voltage when the inverters are configured in series. Each switching unit includes three contactors (116-120) configured between closed and open states to allow and prohibit electric current, respectively. An independent claim is also included for a rail vehicle.
