PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a screening method of compounds having hypoglycemic action ("hypoglycemic action compound"), a diabetes therapeutic agent containing compounds having a novel mechanism of action.SOLUTION: A method of screening compounds having hypoglycemic action by measuring an inhibition activity of a test substance on binding between compound represented by following general formula (I) and a trimeric GTP binding protein &bgr; subunit by using the compound and the trimeric GTP binding protein &bgr; subunit, and diabetes therapeutic agents having hypoglycemic action and binding the trimeric GTP binding protein &bgr; subunit are provided.
